The Family Cycling Tour of Izola is a perfect experience for all generations. It combines exploring the town, easy cycling, and panoramic views that will delight both children and adults.
Cycling Tour of Izola and Visit to Izolana
The tour begins in the heart of Izola, where we first set off on a cycling tour of the town centre. We discover narrow streets, the fishing pier, the town beach, and the lively seaside promenade. Izola is small, welcoming, and exceptionally well suited to family cycling, making the first part of the tour relaxed, fun, and full of local stories.
Next, we visit the Izolana Museum, where we learn about the history of Izola, its fishing tradition, cultural heritage, and the development of life along the coast. Children get a sense of the place and its story, while adults gain an insight into the town’s rich past. Izolana is the perfect introduction to further exploration.
Climb to the Most Beautiful Viewpoint over Izola
After visiting the museum, we get back on our bikes and slowly make our way up the hill above Izola. It is a short but enjoyable climb that is perfectly suitable for families. On this section, the youngest participants will get a taste of a real cycling challenge, similar to the one experienced each year by participants in the Istrian Cycling Marathon.
At the top, we are rewarded with one of the most beautiful views of Izola, with a panorama stretching across the old town centre, marina, coastline, and the Istrian hinterland. It is the perfect moment for photos, a short rest, and taking in the view through the excited eyes of the children.
Descent Back to the Coast and Continuation along the Parenzana to the Locomotive
We then enjoy a relaxed, safe, and scenic descent back towards the coast, where children learn how to descend safely while adults enjoy the beautiful views. Once we join the coastal section, we continue along the legendary Parenzana, a former narrow-gauge railway that is today one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Istria.
Passing the famous locomotive, a popular family stop for photos, a short break, and discovering the history of the Parenzana, the tour concludes at the marathon venue.
